Climate Change Café

Join us March 16, 2008 from 4-6 pm at the Bagel Bin Cafe. Doors open at 3: 30 pm for a Social.  Reservations are required.

Become a part of the global warming solution! The Climate Change  Café is the first step in a process to work collectively with a small group toward reducing your carbon footprint. The event will be based the program described in the book “The Low Carbon Diet” by David Gershon.

Participants in the workbook’s program will be provided the tools to take personal action as part of a team and to spread this tool to our community. The program enables households to calculate their carbon footprint and then choose from a menu of actions to reduce it. It is designed to help the average household drop a minimum of 5,000 pounds of carbon emissions in as little as two months.  This is equal to 10% of the average household’s emissions! Small teams of residents will work together as a support group over a six-week period to implement the reduction actions.

This is our call to action! David Gershon describes the opportunity this way: “Despite its global reach, climate change is a very much local issue. The causes of global warming come in large part from the everyday actions that take place in our communities, with individuals accounting for almost half of the community’s emissions and a third of America’s total emissions.”

  • Free child care with environmental activities will be available.
  • Low Carbon Diet books provided for a recommended donation of $10/household.
  • Food and drink provided with a recommended donation of $5/person.
